In order to support students with their revision for GCSEs and A-levels our secondary English, maths and science specialist advisers offer parents and schools a series of remote revision workshops and masterclasses in the spring to help ensure that students realise their potential in the summer exams.

This year we are running a range of additional revision and booster sessions in the autumn term 2024.

AQA GCSE English Language writing masterclasses

Live online revision sessions focusing on improving GCSE creative and persuasive writing skills.

Our AQA GCSE Language creative and persuasive writing masterclasses are designed to motivate and challenge students in an engaging, focused and active learning environment. Each topic is delivered remotely over two linked sessions by our subject experts provide online teaching and advice, following the very latest guidance, to help students perform to their full potential.

Students will receive advice about how to answer a question in examination conditions and have access to high-quality model answers.

All students who attend the masterclass will also have access to a time-limited recording to support their revision. If the student is unable to attend one or both of the sessions ‘live,’ please complete the booking to receive a copy of the recording and the resources used.

The cost is £20 per student.

GCSE Mathematics revision booster workshops

Following the success of our Spring revision workshops, this year we are adding four further revision workshops to our programme, to take place in September and October 2024.

Led by our secondary Maths advisers, the workshops will support revision for Year 11 mock exams. They will also be useful for students in Years 12 and 13.

The focus of each workshop will be ‘crossover’ content – topics that could appear either on Foundation or Higher Tier papers. They will be suitable for anyone aiming for Grades 4 or 5 at Foundation Tier, and provide consolidation for students aiming for Grades 6 or 7 at Higher Tier.

There will be one workshop per week, on four consecutive Tuesday evenings. All workshops will be recorded, and a link sent to everyone who has booked a place, so students who miss part or all of a session can catch up later.

These workshops are designed as active sessions, with students encouraged to engage with activities and GCSE-style problems, send in responses and ask questions.

The cost is £10 per student.

Mathematics revision workbooks for students

Designed to encourage independent working, these four revision GCSE Maths workbooks have been written to go alongside students’ work and revision in school. They will work well with any of the exam board GCSE (9-1) specifications and can be used in the classroom and / or at home. The workbooks aim to support students in making the best use of the revision time. The topics selected appear frequently in GCSE papers - students who work carefully and successfully through a workbook will have a good chance of achieving the target grade for that book.

Some students may also wish to work through a lower-grade book, to remind them of key areas they may not have studied recently.

Each full colour book costs £7.95 (plus postage and packing) and can be ordered from the HFL Shop by both parents and schools.

The graded maths revision workbooks were brilliant. Really helpful for our targeted grade intervention. The students and intervention tutor commented to me about how clear and accessible they were so thank you.

Maths 'A'-level remote revision workshops

Following the success of our Easter revision workshops, this year we are adding four further revision workshops to our programme, to take place in September and October 2024.

Led by our secondary Maths adviser, the aim of these workshops is to strengthen understanding of Year 12 content, to help students establish a firm foundation for the second year of the ‘A’-level course.

The workshops are intended to support the learning of students aiming for grades up to Grade B. Students aiming for A or A* are welcome to attend, and may find it useful consolidation, but should be aware that the content is not aimed directly at them. It may be that students studying for more advanced qualifications in Year 11 will benefit from attending some of the sessions. (The breakdown of session content in the flyer below will help decide on this.)

There will be one workshop per week, on four consecutive Wednesday evenings. All workshops will be recorded, and a link sent to everyone who has booked a place, so students who miss part or all of a session can catch up later. These workshops are designed as active sessions, with students encouraged to engage with activities and exam-style problems, send in responses and ask questions.

The cost is £10 per student.
