Working in close partnership with schools, settings and trusts is central to everything HFL does, and we are delighted to welcome two new Non‑Executive Directors whose experience and leadership will further strengthen that relationship.
Robin Newman, Principal of Haileybury Turnford in Cheshunt, has formally confirmed his acceptance as a Non‑Executive Director, with effect from Wednesday 1 April 2026. Robin has been elected by schools as the secondary phase Non‑Executive Director.
Robin has worked in education for almost 30 years and has been Principal at Haileybury Turnford since 2016. His career spans roles as a geography teacher, pastoral leader and curriculum leader in schools across Hertfordshire and Essex. He brings extensive experience of leading school improvement and supporting students facing barriers to learning and wellbeing. Alongside his headship, Robin has previously served as a governor at a Hertfordshire primary school and is currently a trustee of a multi‑academy trust in Essex.
Robin will be joined on the Board by Tony Fitzpatrick, Director of Education at Hertfordshire County Council (HCC), who also took up his role as a Non‑Executive Director on 1 April 2026. Tony joins the Board as an HCC‑appointed Non‑Executive Director.
Tony brings over 30 years of experience across the education sector. Having begun his career in the classroom, he went on to serve as a secondary school headteacher for more than a decade before progressing into senior system leadership roles. In his current role at HCC, Tony provides strategic leadership across Hertfordshire’s education system and brings particular expertise in inclusion and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
