One of the most rewarding aspects of our work at HFL Education is the opportunity to form deep, purposeful partnerships with schools and trusts that are truly committed to continuous improvement. Our collaboration with Spiral Partnership Trust has been a shining example of what can be achieved when professional curiosity, shared values and a commitment to excellence come together.
Spiral Partnership Trust commissioned HFL Education to deliver computing and English subject leader clusters based on a clear vision: to build sustainable subject leadership across their schools, foster teacher confidence and, ultimately, improve outcomes for all learners.
From the outset it was evident that leaders across Spiral were keen to harness the power of subject communities.
Through the computing cluster, we worked closely to ensure the curriculum is well sequenced and tailored to the specific needs of each school. The subject leaders shared their curriculum overview and progression documents and engaged in discussion on progression of learning in computing. They focused particularly on the computer science strand, where we developed understanding of a clear progression in programming skills from EYFS to Y6.
Similarly, the English cluster provided a space for colleagues to consider foundational skills in literacy, exploring the question: What are the priority areas that need to be embedded before diving into more complex learning? In particular, we explored the importance of handwriting and spelling: What do we need to get right for our pupils to engender automaticity of transcription and free cognitive load for composition?
Perhaps most powerful has been the trust-wide impact of this work. Spiral’s leadership has ensured that subject leads are given time and support to embed learning, to cascade knowledge within their schools, and to build leadership capacity. The model is one of sustainable development, rooted in collaboration rather than compliance.
At HFL Education we believe that meaningful school improvement happens when people are empowered to learn together, to reflect together and to grow together. Spiral Partnership Trust exemplifies this spirit. It has been a privilege to walk alongside them on this journey, and we’re excited to see where it leads next.
Working with HFL to support the development of our subject networks has been an incredibly positive experience for Spiral. The partnership has enabled our leaders to reflect, grow and enhance their skills. It has reinforced our dedication to providing the highest standards of education through collaboration, innovation and strong relationships.
