Key Stage 1 (KS1) Reading Fluency Project: project delivery

The Key Stage 1 (KS1) Reading Fluency Project CPD is delivered via a:

Project launch, incorporating 3 sessions:

  • Session 1: e-learning module accessed 1 week prior to launch
  • Session 2 & 3: live interactive webinars

Twilight session (live webinar)

Paired 2-hour school visit (delivered remotely)

Final review (live webinar)

In addition, schools will be encouraged to use recommended assessment materials, which will support in judging the impact of the project. The HFL Education advisory team will support with how to use the assessment materials diagnostically, and will draw together pre and post intervention data outcomes for the cohort.

The project cost covers the inclusion of up to two teachers who will deliver the sessions and a project lead, who will oversee the long-term delivery of this work (ideally the English Subject Leader).

Each school is allocated a project adviser who will remain on hand throughout the project period to answer queries and support the school as needed. As part of the project, participating teachers are asked to work with a group of six toeight pupils for 40 minutes each week (two sessions of 20 minutes) for an eight-week period. These pupils are deemed to be not on track to reach the Expected Standard in reading at the end of Key Stage 1 (KS1) or at the end of year 3.
