A cost effective, full-day, face-to-face, cross-curricular INSET day for primary teaching staff

The HFL Education Primary Teaching and Learning teams are coming together to provide a full-day, face-to-face, cross-curricular INSET day for all Primary teaching staff.

This event is open to all schools around the country and the price is £99 including lunch.

The event offers school leaders the opportunity to provide their teaching staff with a full day of high quality training on key aspects of primary education delivered by specialists in their fields. The training will allow schools to develop key areas, and to consider positive impact on pupil outcomes over the year. Accelerating the progress of disadvantaged learners will be a thread throughout.

The event will be held at the Hertfordshire Development Centre in Stevenage and the programme will include:

  • Kathy Roe, Deputy Lead Adviser, Primary English, HFL Education:
Kathy will share the impact that reading fluency instruction can have on struggling readers across the primary phase. She will share some strategies, based in research, which have proven to raise reading achievement in a short space of time.
  • Charlie Harber, Lead Teaching and Learning Adviser, Mathematics, HFL Education:
Charlie will share the impact results and core strategies from the highly successful Making Fluent and Flexible Calculators. These approaches enable children to harness their base facts and to have ownership over their mental maths.

 Workshop programme

  • Our workshops programme includes the option for your staff to attend sessions on reading, phonics, spelling, oracy, mathematics, Early Years, assessment, foundation subjects, curriculum planning, sequencing and accelerating the progress of disadvantaged learners.
  • Bob Cox, award-winning writer of the ‘Opening Doors’ series of books will make a guest appearance with his workshop entitled: Opening Doors to Ambitious Primary English

Lunchtime activities

Delegates will be invited to come and play a maths game, share in a story time or explore some lovely books.

School leaders will be able to:

  • tailor their staff’s day to meet their needs and requirements as a school
  • enable their staff to come together and share best practice
  • enable their staff to begin the school year with insight and enthusiasm for the year ahead.

Lunch will be provided and there will be an opportunity for a limited number of schools to rent additional workspaces for the final hour of the day for their leadership teams or staff to meet to discuss their plans for the coming term / year. These spaces will be available on a first come first served basis, prior to the event.

This event is planned for the first INSET day of the autumn term on Monday 4th September 2023 and schools are invited to book places for their staff as soon as possible as numbers will be limited to the capacity of the venue.

Upon booking schools will be sent details of how to select the workshops they would like their staff to attend.
